FAITHOUGHTS Teacher Christina Petrovic I am a lot of things; mother, poet, writer, friend. A teacher, I am not. Four months ago my daughter Ava was struggling at school. After trying everything to clear her incredibly rocky path, we decided to enroll her in an online school to complete the second half of her seventh grade year. This was a temporary solution to an immediate problem. Although it solved one, it created another. I am NOT a teacher. Despite being patient and bright, homeschooling was never an option because I was confident I would fall short in the role of teacher. Knowing something and imparting that knowledge to others is a skill I did not think I possessed. In the program, school exists via the internet. There are also “live lessons” for each subject where the child can interact with teacher and students online in a virtual classroom setting. My job as parent/learning coach occurs in overseeing schoolwork, checking assignments and explaining difficult lessons. Though I have a college degree, it was not awarded in teaching. Without teachers, how would we learn? To teach is to enhance a mind, enrich character, craft skills…teach. I reluctantly found out that I already had all of the tools that I needed. Teaching has become something in which I have excelled. I have been able to frame information in a newer and simpler way. I am not just doing it, but doing it well. I like to think that part of the reason my daughter took this side road, wasn’t strictly for her own walk. God has intertwined our paths so fluidly for His purpose of teaching me how to teach her, that I discovered a whole other side of myself. By teaching my child, my Father has taught me. Christina Petrovic is a stay-at-home mom with her children Ava and Evan. She’s at petrovic3@hotmail.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pentecost Sunday, May 20 Pentecost, along with Christmas and Easter, is one of the three great festivals of the church. It’s this Sunday!, and at Faith we mark this festive day in various ways: with special music, with a multi-lingual reading of the Acts lesson; and with an abundance of the color for the day – RED: banners, flowers, streamers, and you! Wear red this Sunday and join us in a Spirit-filled celebration! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
