FAITHOUGHTS One Little Verse Maria Arndt A few weeks ago, my friend Jori posted on Facebook a decorative piece that caught my eye.The base was a wooden block with fancy script that read: “My Bible verse of the week”. Jori wrote about how she found it at a craft fair, right after a sermon at her church where her pastor, challenged the congregation to commit one Bible verse to memory each week. Jori found that that verse applied to her life in many ways and found it was upon her heart as she did her daily tasks and interacted with others. This story reminded me of when I was in charge of a women’s retreat. Our speaker, Brenda Jank, was an amazing woman of great faith and understood our need for rest in this world. She shared that after her mother died, she put on one of her mother’s sweaters. When reaching into the pocket, she found a Bible verse in her mother’s handwriting. It was crumpled but clear. Brenda wore the sweater often and would put her hand into the pocket to feel the scripture scribbled on the scrap of paper. While Brenda kept the original verse of her mother’s, she began to add other verses from the Bible to a scrap of paper and tuck it in her pocket. In times of joy or tribulation, she would reach for it and draw strength from it. I absolutely love this idea! I know I can use the encouragement and strength that scripture brings. Taking a minute to select a verse from worship that week or from daily devotions could bring these things to me. Whether I post it or tuck it in a pocket, it can serve as a reminder to me of the great and mighty presence of our Father, the forgiveness of His Son and the fruits of His Holy Spirit. Won’t you join me? Message me at reamac@sbcglobal.net the verse that you chose and how it lifted you up this week! We are not alone! We are together in him and God’s holy and precious word. Maria Arndt is a member of Faith. In her daily ministry she works as a kindergarten teacher.
