FAITHOUGHTS Be Still by Sarah Cutcliffe I get teased a lot in my family for being a bit of a clean freak. I personally don’t think I have a problem. If you talk to my mom though, she would tell you that my cleaning habits have gravitated toward obsessive. She cites the one time I took her plate to clean it when she wasn’t finished eating as supporting evidence. Although it may seem intense for others, an organized home is essential for me. I experience anxiety and stress as many of you do. When things are out of place, I can’t center my thoughts on tasks or interactions. For me, a clean space quells my anxiety and allows me to focus my attention on more important experiences. With my worrying at bay I can pour my passion into my relationships with God and with others. Psalm 46: 10 is something I repeat pretty often to myself when I am trying to quiet my mind. “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” I love the reminder to stop and focus on God’s all-encompassing presence. I have identified the things that help me to be still and put my attention on God. In my case, I can’t think of God and others if I have a wrecked house so I try really hard to keep it clean. For me a clean house fosters an open mind and heart. What helps you focus on God and others? It could be working out, gardening, walking, meditating, praying or a multitude of other activities. I encourage you to identify what quiets your mind & opens your heart and to do more of it this week. That mindful time of listening for God will undoubtedly have an impact. High school mission trip Students are asking you to “buy a mile” or “buy a meal”. They’ll be driving to Knoxville in July for their mission trip- It’s 1000 miles there, and 1000 miles back, and we need a few meals on the road. Visit students in the gathering area after worship this weekend to find out more! Chaperones and students, this Sunday at 12 noon we will meet, work through some details and have “Tool Time” together as we learn to use tools we will use at the work sites. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
