FAITHOUGHTS The Right Tool for the Job by Maria Arndt Cleaning is not something that I am very interested in doing. I’m quite frankly a give it a “lick and a promise ” kind of girl. Don’t get me wrong. I love to have a clean and sparkling fresh home. I would just rather that I did not have to do it. I still try to keep an organized and fairly tidy home despite my disposition. Just recently, my 21 year old daughter, Catherine said to me: “Mama, you should get Ajax instead of Comet. Dad got it once and his sink has NEVER been cleaner.” So, I bought the Ajax and I scrubbed the sink. She was right. The sink looked fantastic and the faucet looked sparkly clean. All the filth was washed away. The gray smudges and tea stains were erased as if they never existed. The right tool for the job made everything just as it should be. Everyday, some of my choices and behavior mar me. They make me just like my sink… a sinner who is dirty, scratched up and stained. Sometimes, I think that I can fix myself. I can do the right thing. I can be holy. I can fix the harmed relationships. I can stop my unkind thoughts. I can say all the right words. The truth is that I can not. Jesus is the only one who can heal me and make me whole again. He is the One to fix me and make me pure. He will give me strength to live each day for Him. I can not do it myself. He is one who rectifies all my wrongs and cleanses me from all unrighteousness! Praise be to God the Father for His gift of Savior, Jesus to us all! So do not be disheartened, my friends! Look to the empty cross and empty tomb. He is right one for the job. Maria Arndt is a member of Faith. In her daily ministry she works as a kindergarten teacher. A conversation about our community, and about race Two incidents with serious racial implications and consequences have rocked the Homewood/ Flossmoor community this week. Neighbors! – Let’s talk about what’s happened and about our life together in a racially- mixed community. Community leaders including village trustees, religious leaders, and school board members invite you to a structured conversation on Sunday, May 5 from 2- 4pm at Flossmoor Community Church, 2218 Hutchison in Flossmoor. Our facilitator is Dr. Peter St Jean, Flossmoor resident & chair of North Park University’s sociology department. Tuesday’s preparatory meeting had 60 leaders present, engaged with one another about issues before us, across racial lines. Come to Sunday’s conversation, expecting even more people, and expecting to be engaged in a community worth fighting for! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Building Vision Capital Campaign News WE DID IT! We committed ourselves to replacing our roof, painting the exterior of our building, replacing the Dixie Highway sign, and tithing (10%) to housing ministries among people in poverty. We set an ambitious fund-raising goal: $88,000. And … our pledge totals are beyond our goal! Thank you, to all who participated to bring these dreams into reality, and thanks be to God, who continues to bless us in so many significant ways. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
