FAITHOUGHTS Growing In Faith Together Pastor Klonowski Summer is a time of rest and refreshment. I hope you’ve got a vacation planned. I do! You’re invited to make this summer a time of spiritual rest and refreshment, as well. Two groups will gather regularly beginning in June, one on Saturday mornings and another on Monday evenings. Participants will read a manageable (!) few pages of the New Testament each day. It helps if you pick a particular time of the day and a place to do this regularly. Where’s your spot, for a bit of quiet and reflection each day? Then gather with your small group once a week for a guided discussion of what we’ve read. The conversation is facilitated – by Lenae Tietjens and Don Beal on Saturday mornings; by Bummer Gacsko and Carla Benard on Mondays – and will follow a curriculum called “Disciple.” Each week includes “Our Human Condition,” which considers a common human experience from the perspective of the week’s readings. It also includes “The Marks of Discipleship,” identifying particular characteristics of disciples and inviting you to think of ways your life and the life of our community reflects those characteristics. Now why in the world might you want to do this for a summer?
* For a personal, spiritual time of rejuvenation and blessing. If you do this, you will be refreshed and blessed! No kidding! * To become just a little more comfortable with prayer. By yourself, and with one another. * To learn about New Testament. There’s a Word in there for us, you know. * To discover and explore your own giftedness. As we consider the gifts of the Spirit in the New Testament – which of these gifts are yours? BUT, you say, I can’t commit to every week! I’ve got a vacation planned! Of course you do. Come when you can; miss when you must. I’ll bet when you take that vacation you’ll take your “Disciple” book along, and keep up with the Bible readings and reflection. It’ll mean that much to you. BUT, you say, I don’t know Bible! You don’t have to. This is not about knowing Bible; it’s more about engaging God in your life, and learning how Bible can help you do that. Sign up on the church office window, or call (708) 799-1160. A workbook is provided; there’s no cost. Friends are welcome! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Summer PADS volunteers: Even in summer, many of our neighbors don’t have a place to sleep. South Suburban PADS continues its work housing & feeding our homeless neighbors. Every Monday-Friday night, St. Lawrence O’Toole in Matteson will host PADS. As Jesus calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves, can you help? Lee Brauer will lead Faith’s PADS meal ministry this summer. Contact her at brauerlee@aol.com [mailto:brauerlee@aol.com]. If you want to volunteer to staff shelter, contact volunteer@sspads.or [mailto:volunteer@sspads.or] or call 708-332-7700 x131 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Growing In Faith Together (GIFT) this summer: This summer two small groups will meet, one on Saturday mornings and one on Monday evenings. GIFT participants will read a few pages of the New Testament every day, and gather weekly for a facilitated conversation about what we lean in the Bible about our daily lives as people of God. Never read the Bible? No problem! Need child care? Let us know. Sign ups on the church office window. More info at the church office. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
