FAITHOUGHTS Milestones Deborah Burnet I have a Milestone Birthday this week. The celebration has already begun, and it will continue for some time to come! I have felt so blessed by all the family and friends who have come by or reached out to celebrate with me. And for the opportunity to take stock – Who am I? How did I get to this point, and where am I going? God made us humans to be people who like milestones. We look for, we mark and remember important events in our lives and our community. When the people of Israel were saved from the warring Philistines by the hand of God, Samuel set up a stone as a marker of remembrance. He named it ‘Ebenezer,’ meaning ‘Thus far has the Lord helped us.’ Taking time out to celebrate and reflect shows me how little this is all about MY work, in the end. God is working the whole time, through my family, my friends, my church, and my world. In marking the biggest milestone of all time, Jesus told us, ‘Do this in remembrance of me.’ Look for milestones this summer. When you find a milestone to celebrate, take time out to remember who, and whose you are. Who created us to be humans to live, love, and serve. Thanks be to God! Deb Burnet is a member of Faith. Vacation Bible School sails next week! VBS sets sail for the first of two weeks on Monday, June 11. Respond Now Needs for June Respond Now is the emergency social service agency that serves our area. They are always in need of personal hygiene items, as well as non-perishable food items. This month, they are looking for tuna, mayo, and pickles.
