FAITHOUGHTS Planting Seeds Maria Arndt Picture it. A balmy 79 degrees with blue skies and sunshine on your shoulders. I was exiting from my car as I saw one of our pastors strolling up into the parking lot to begin his day at Vacation Bible School. He quite adeptly hops on the trunk of my car and a serious conversation begins… I say, “You know what amazes me about VBS is that the obvious audience is the elementary age child that signs up. But the audience that I did not expect are the teens that come as crew leaders. They all want to participate and share and are listening all the time.” Pastor gently reminded me that The Holy Spirit is alive and well at VBS. We may never see these kids again but if a seed is planted that church is a safe place filled with love that SOMEDAY that may bring them back when life gets tough. I say, “Yeah isn’t there this verse that if you imprint them on their heart and mind that they will remember them.” He replies, ” Ah yes, Deuteronomy 11, I know it well.” There was more to the conversation. However, what was important to me is that this VBS experience is not about Maria Arndt or Bob Klonowski. No, it’s far bigger than that. It’s bigger than Faith Lutheran Church. This VBS thing is about the work of the Holy Spirit and the seed that is sowed. A seed that we may not witness the fruition. Doing the Holy Spirit’s bidding is a joyful task when I look at it in this way! Thanks be to God for His hand of blessing over this opportunity to share and plant! Maria Arndt is a member of Faith. Vacation Bible School is under way! We’re learning lots and having a great time! VBS Sunday in worship is this Sunday, June 24 at 9:30am, where you can share the music and our learnings. Growing In Faith Together (GIFT)! This summer two small groups are meeting for study and prayer. GIFT participants will read pages of the New Testament daily and gather weekly for facilitated conversation about the Bible in our daily lives as people of God. Never read the Bible before? It’s not too late! Videos and facilitators will help us learn and grow. Need childcare? Let us know! Saturdays 8:30-10am through August 18 and Mondays, 7- 8:30pm, through August 20. They are always in need of personal hygiene items, as well as non-perishable food items. This month, they are looking for tuna, mayo, and pickles.
