FAITHOUGHTS Word Pastor Klonowski One of my summer projects is the reorganization of my church office. Every book has been taken down from its place and cleaned; took me three weeks, working an hour at a time, to get that part done. I enjoyed it. Every book has a story. With a couple of the old ones I remembered undergraduate teachers who turned me on to the study of faith. Here’s the book on Judaism that my rabbi friend and I read together once. How have I used in sermons over the years, the ideas I got from this book, or that one? I remember the congregation member who gave me this book, with an excited “You gotta read this!” So what looked like a dull old cleaning project turned into a kind of “Bob Klonowski, this is your life.” Some of us have had a similar experience this summer, as we’ve read New Testament in the two “Growing In Faith Together” groups. Like me among my office books, it’s not like we haven’t seen these texts before! But one more time we take our Bibles off the shelf and read. And the discussions in the groups have gone something like this: I’ve never noticed this part before, but it’s a powerful little bit, isn’t it? Let me tell you about when this passage here meant so much to me. Boy, this part is hitting me in a new way, at this point in my life. What St. Paul says about the place of the law and the Gospel in our lives, is such a good word for a friend of mine who’s wondering right now about some things. This is your life. Your life is the remembered parts, and it’s also all the things that strike you anew and feed you, challenge you, and push you on your way forward. Work trippers on their way Four high school students and three adult leaders head out this week to Pennsylvania to help rebuild after storms last year. They’ve been hard at work planning and preparing all year.
