FAITHOUGHTS Thumbs Up Christina Petrovic The universal sign for approval or “all is good” is a thumbs up. That is unless you are on a boat. Unfortunately, I found that out the hard way. While being dragged behind a speeding boat on an inflatable hot dog, I gave a thumbs up sign to let everyone know that I was having fun and that all was good. Next thing I knew, the boat took off and I was going several nautical miles faster than I was only a moment before. What I didn’t know was that a thumbs up on a boat means “go faster”! We have symbols for everything. In this technological age, there is a symbol for every emotion or thought under the sun. You can send a series of pictures to your friend via text message without actually SAYING a single word. A smily face next to a swimming pool, hamburger and flip flops is an invite for a cool dip and a BBQ. An airplane, a palm tree and a smiling sun means that you just landed at your vacation get away. Are signs from God ever that clear? Ever since my aunt died 10 years ago I have been drawn to hawks. I don’t know why, but over and over there have been hawks in my path; 3 swooped right across the hood of my car, I see at least 2 every day, and one was even sitting next to my car on the side of the road and I swear it looked right at me. I’m not sure how I know, but I am certain that hawks are God’s sign to me that she is still around. Whether it’s through a vivid dream of a passed loved one, a butterfly on your car window or a simple “feeling” when a song comes on the radio, I think God tries over and over to get our attention. While the signs might not be as clear as an emoji silly face or trail of sparkly hearts, they surround us constantly. What are your signs? Believe in them, because even though we don’t always understand His plans for us, have faith that they are Christina Petrovic is a stay-at-home mom with her children Ava and Evan.
