FAITHOUGHTS Oh Come Let us Adore Him! by Maria Arndt This Advent season begins with me being the third generation to select an overarching theme for Christmas. My mother and my grandmother set the tradition of a theme and a color scheme selection. My mother paired her theme with a Bible verse that she announced at Thanksgiving. We all looked forward to seeing the theme come alive before our eyes with our outfits and the décor. This year, my color scheme is winter white with clear glass. My theme is “Oh come let us adore Him!”. I had so much fun, thematically transforming our home. The beauty and simplicity of it all overwhelms me with the joy of the Savior’s birth! It is so focusing for me. My tree, pictured above, is made out of a discarded closet door that I found in my alley (A”door” pun intended)! I love to reuse and find function in an item that appears to be earmarked worthless. Isn’t that what our Savior’s birth appeared to be? Lowly manger birth…unexpected “illegitimate” pregnancy… son of a carpenter…Jesus seemed to be nothing. Yet, we as faithful believers celebrate this season… confidently knowing that that “lowly” tiny baby will rise victorious and conquer the devil and deliver us from our sin! As you celebrate this year may you find joy and peace in the simplicity and beauty of this Advent. Oh come let us adore HIM! Maria Arndt is a member of Faith. Congregation meeting Sunday, December 9 Following our worship services on Sunday, December 9, Faith’s Council has called a congregation meeting at 12 noon. Plan to be there, to consider two important things for our community:
* To undertake a capital appeal in 2019 in the spring, for a new roof (including payment of a $25,000 deposit toward the roof contract), a new sign, window and other capital repairs, to be tithed (10%). * That Faith become a PADS site in early 2019 conditioned on enrolling appropriate volunteer, non-pastoral, congregational leadership. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Advent Midweek worship, Wednesdays at 7pm
The season of Advent is traditionally a season of special prayer, preparing the Christian community for the coming of Christ. We gather each week to light a new Advent wreath candle, with gentle song, a scripture lesson,and a brief reflection. Children’s Christmas program practice, Saturday, December 8 Please plan to attend the program practice from 9- 11am this Saturday. Listen to your music CD and practice your lines as well.
