FAITHOUGHTS Hope of the World Pastor Klonowski I’m worried about the tenor of social and political engagement in America; I guess we all are. Underneath it all I sense cynicism – there is nothing to be expected but selfishness! – and nihilism – no such thing as religious or moral principle; all of this is meaningless! – and despair: it’s all bad, and it’s all getting worse; the future holds nothing but more of the same. But in church it’s the season of Advent, and our Sunday School’s theme last Sunday was “Make room for … hope.” The paraments in church are blue for this season; blue, the color of hope. We await a Savior, and if our God is to be trusted, then this will be a Savior who brings us hope. Let me share with you a piece called Advent Credo, by the Jesuit priest Daniel Berrigan: It is not true that we must accept inhumanity and discrimination, hunger and poverty, death and destruction- This is true: I have come that they may have life, and that abundantly. It is not true that violence and hatred should have the last word, and that war and destruction rule forever- This is true: Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, his name shall be called wonderful councilor, mighty God, the Everlasting, the Prince of peace. It is not true that we have to wait for those who are specially gifted, who are the prophets of the Church before we can be peacemakers- This is true: I will pour out my spirit on all flesh and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your young ones shall see visions and your old folks shall have dreams. The hope of Advent is always a hope-against-hope; we cling to the possibility that seems so thin, even as we trust that because God says so, so it will be! Let this hope-against-hope be yours this Christmas! May you see visions of love and peace and justice come to be reality. And let’s affirm with all humility, with joy, with faith, and with courage … that this babe in a manger, this Jesus Christ, is the hope of the world. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Special congregation meeting follow up Following our worship services on Sunday, December 9, the congregation met to consider two important items for our community:
* To undertake a capital appeal in spring 2019 for a new roof (including payment of a $25,000 deposit toward the roof contract), a new sign, window and other capital repairs, to be tithed (10%). * That Faith become a PADS site in early 2019 conditioned on enrolling appropriate volunteer, non-pastoral, congregational leadership With outstanding attendance and healthy conversation, both items were overwhelmingly approved. Look for more information coming soon on both initiatives! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
