FAITHOUGHTS Walking Around Wet Pastor Amy Wiegert God’s gift of water brings life and freshness to the earth and to us; it washes away our sins and brings us eternal life. We ask God to renew the living spring of life within us and protect us in spirit and body. We remember our baptism and hear of Jesus’ baptism. This week, as we celebrate Jesus’ baptism, we are reminded that water washes and hydrates, bringing back to life that which was dry and dying. We’re reminded that God doesn’t walk us into deep waters to drown us, but to renew us. We can be thankful that God gives us this gift! Our liturgy shows us that God has always been there, that God’s gift of water and Word are for us: We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood, you delivered Noah and his family, and through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. By the baptism of Jesus’ death and resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to live in you. (Evangelical Lutheran Worship, pg 230). Communion servers (aka communion deacons) training: For those of you would like to start serving communion, or those who’d like a refresher course, Pastor Wiegert will lead a short training on hows and whys of serving communion. Join her Sunday, January 13 at 12noon in the sanctuary. Doug Hills Memorial Service: Doug Hills, long-time member of Faith, died on January 3. We remember him as sweet, gentle, and very tall! A memorial service for Doug is scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 1:30 p.m at the church. All are invited. The Faith community will gather again to commend one of ours into the loving embrace of our Lord.
