FAITHOUGHTS A Year-End Report Pastor Robert Klonowski Looking back over the year, it occurs to me that some new things happened at Faith in 2018. MOST significantly, we called Amy Wiegert to be associate pastor! This is a stretch for us – we’re looking at a (slight) deficit budget this year! – but we’re leaning into the recommendation from the Marshall Report to strengthen our family and education ministries, with good results there already. Our Stewardship Committee moved in a remarkable new direction. Seeking to foster whole-life stewardship, we established three small groups over the summer and fall to gather around the Word. More than 30 people in new Bible studies – that can’t fail to bless us. Following another Marshall Report recommendation, to make the community more inviting and review our new member process, we established a new Outreach & Hospitality Team. There are 9 people on the team and things are appearing and things are changing! There was lots of new property work done, to maintain and spruce up the place where we do ministry. Too many projects to enumerate here – let’s just remember it as the summer we lived with the scaffolding in the sanctuary. VERY significantly, we moved to become a homeless shelter at Faith, Monday nights during the cold months of the year. We declared a short season of prayer, learning, and discernment about this question; the process was a blessing to all, and we decided to go ahead with it. It felt like the Holy Spirit moving among us, there. Still some kinks to work out, but as I write this … last night 41 men slept in our gym on a night when it got down to 12 degrees. Our giving ministry continued to expand. As of this writing we’ve received 83 financial pledges for 2019; 10 of those are new, and 47 of them represent an increase in giving over last year. Overall, pledges are up 5.8%. As you’ve heard me say before, we seem to be doing church in a different way, with folks who are clear and excited about the mission, want to know Christ in their heart and have Christ in every part of their lives, and are deeply committed. I think our model is moving toward that of the early Church: in a world that is less and less culturally religious, we’re becoming something of a counter-cultural community. We’ve found something in this world – the Gospel! -that feeds us and gives us new life. We’re the people who can’t be at a social thing on a Sunday morning, because we want to be in church. We’re the people who order our lives around what we learn in the Bible, in our worship, and in our Christ-centered community. We live for this. It’s a blessing for me to be part of it, as your pastor. I’m glad you’re part of it, too! Come to worship, give generously, learn and grow in your faith, serve in some way. God will surely bless us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
