FAITHOUGHTS Calendars and celebrating by Pastor Amy Wiegert Summer finds me working ahead, flipping pages of my wall calendar to fall, winter, spring. I love the calendar on my office wall for its photos from around the world. This year I’ve noticed the creators, returned Peace Corps volunteers, added dates of celebrations or remembrances across the globe. This week marks the Seneca Falls convention on July 19, 1848 as well as Mary Magdalene’s feast day (July 22). As I’m (still) unpacking boxes, I’m finding papers and books on some white women who were vocal suffragettes: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Victoria Woodhull, Frances Willard, Sarah Perkins as well as women named in Bible stories like Mary, Martha, Mary Magdalene, Prisca & Aquilla. A favorite book I’ve just rediscovered (in a box) is The Woman’s Bible, a commentary authored by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and other women in the late 1890s. I appreciate Cady Stanton’s words on Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb: “Though the other disciples saw nothing but cast off clothes, Mary sees and talks with angels and with Jesus. As usual, the woman is always most ready to believe in miracles, however extravagant and though beyond all human comprehension. Mary arrived before it was light, and waited. Seeing someone approaching she supposed it was the gardener and asked his name. Jesus calls her by name and his voice is made him known to her.” On August 1, I’ll celebrate my official one year anniversary as one of your pastors. I’m so thankful! I hope the summer finds you spending time remembering, celebrating, and dreaming. I pray for you to be reminded of history, to dream and imagine, that God’s voice continues to be made known to you, and to see miracles beyond all human comprehension. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Respond Now needs: socks and underwear, kids’ sizes Respond Now is the emergency social service agency that serves our area. They are always in need of personal hygiene items, as well as non-perishable food items. This month, they’re challenging Faith to donate socks and underwear. Drop your donations in the boxes in the church narthex (gathering area). We are in need of someone to deliver the items in July! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
