FAITHOUGHTS Christmas Songs & All Saints’ Day Pastor Amy Wiegert About this time of year I add Advent & Christmas songs into my playlists (judge if you must) but it increases my level of hope some days. In part, as we close in on All Hallows’ Eve and All Saints’ Day, I add them because my maternal grandfather sang some Christmas songs all year long. I have a few favorites, including a few that were my grandfather’s favorites too. One of our favorite Christmas songs was “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear.” Grandpa Oltrogge worked hard. He worked overnight shifts at the John Deere plant & later as a carpenter on his own, building homes from the foundation up. He hummed and sang, and was ready with a joke. Even better, he’d give you a clear look that seemed to go right through you and a sincere question: “How ya doin, Aim?” At 6′ 6″, he was a gentle giant. Grandpa dealt with Parkinson’s disease for more than 20 years. It was difficult to watch the disease progress in his body- the only thing more difficult was when he begged off time with us grand kids because he was afraid we’d catch the Parkinson’s. There’s no way we could. Some days Grandpa just wanted his body to rest, he was tired of shaking, & some days it did let him rest and so he would nap. And we’d sing him into a nap! Though Grandpa has been gone from this world nearly 20 years, I remember singing together often these verses: Still through the cloven skies, they come With peaceful wings unfurled And still the heavenly music flows Over all the weary world Oh, you beneath life’s crushing load Whose forms are bending low Who tore among the climbing way With painful steps and slow Look now for glad and golden hours Come swiftly on the wind Oh, rest beside the weary road To hear the angels sing Are you weary? Take a nap, sing a song, hear the angels sing. God can handle it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sharon Stancik Memorial Service Sharon Stancik of our Faith community died on Wednesday, September 11. Sharon struggled with illness for many years, and she lived through those years with great courage. She was a member of the sewing ministry at Faith, she was an organizer and a cleaner of the church kitchen, and contributed to our congregation’s life in many other ways. Please remember in prayer her husband John, and children Derek, Darlene, and Michelle. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 26, at 10 a.m., at Faith. Following the service the community is invited to a celebratory lunch in the gym. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stewardship Campaign 2019 The Stewardship Campaign for 2019 is about to begin at Faith Church! On Sunday mornings, Oct. 27th and Nov. 3rd, members of our community will share faith stories. On the following Sunday, November 10 th, we’ll bring forward our pledges as an act of worship. We’ll be blessed that Sunday to have Pastor Heidi Torgerson in our pulpit, bringing us a vision of what Jesus says we can be! During this time please be in prayer for the community and our church and for its ministries, and for guidance as to your role in making them happen through your gifts of time, talent, and treasure. God has gifted all of us. Pray for the Lord’s guidance in sharing those gifts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
